glére n(glér,gléir). An abstract, the precise ṁeaning of which
in any given context is not always easy to decide. It seems
75to have the two primary senses : (1) abundance ; (2) choice,
élite(passing into that ofexcellencein general). The former
meaning seems to be that of the numerous occurrences of the
word in SR ; the latter meaning prevails in the more recent
exx. The sense ` purity,brightness ' given by some translators
80has no support, and is probably due to a confusion with
