Cóir. A. 225 (BB):fir domnann .i. fir ceadail(i.e. ceangail),
and CZ v 485. 17 (cited above), are not sufficient to prove
50the meaningtie. In fact, the meaningtie, bindwould not
be expected with this root, whether one sees indamnaim
the Celtic equivalent of Gk.δάμνημι(as Strachan proposes,
Verb. Syst. of SR p. 61 ), or, as might also be suggested, a
loanword from Lat.dominari(cf.theo-formdomnaim, not
55found with1 damnaid), which in time fell together with
1 damnaid(from Lat.damnare). The true Irish cognate of
δάμνημιisdaimim, Celtic agreeing with Scr. and Germ. in
forming the present withio. The complete absence of
primary inflexion and of a vn. formed directly from the
60root is against the comparisondamnaim: ib. 150 .
