between two fasts, i.e. betweencét-áinandáin diden;
hence it never, likecét-áin(g s. cétáine,cétáin), forms
ag s.in-áine,dia dardáinbeing the constant form from
the earliest occurrences up to the present day. The
30accent falls on the ultimate, comp. Bodl. ACC, RC xx 164.

Thoughdardáindoes not seem to occur in Old-Ir. MSS,
its appearance in such old texts as the ACC and the Brehon
Laws is sufficient proof of its Old-Ir. origin. The e of the
35unaccented `etar' would naturally assimilate itself to a
precedingdéordia, possibly as early as the early 8th century
whendiawas stilldé.
