Vn. suide.

The stem said- is early superseded by suid-, though still used occas. as a wk. vb., pret. 3 s. saidis, Aisl. MC 53.4 . suidid follows wk. conjug., with b-fut. (1 s. -suidheabh, DDána 88.26 . ní shuidiub , 3 s. noco suidfe , Ériu v 224.75 ). But the pret. 3 s. form dessid continues in use till comparatively late: 3 s. deisidhis, Ériu iv 176.7 . 3 pl. deisidheadar, FM i 528.15 . co ndeisidhetar , MR 264.17 . The use of the stem suid- in transitive (causative) sense (see 2 suidid) is late (cf. suidigidir), and is not to be confused with the similar use of the stem -suidi in compds. in O.Ir.
